During the onboarding process, we discovered the client couldn’t access their domain name because the previous SEO agency had transferred the domain name into their own account.
You should NEVER relinquish control of your domain name.
One of the first things we do when taking a new client on is get all of their digital assets into their possession.
Anyways, we put together a carefully worded email the client could send to their last provider containing domain name transfer instructions. The previous agency reluctantly complied with the request. We were able to keep the DNS settings in place and the transfer went smoothly.
The domain name transfer process at GoDaddy typically takes a week or so, but we were able to get it expedited.

After the domain name was secure and in the rightful owner’s account, we set them up with their own web hosting account, Google Search Console account, Google Analytics account, obtained control of their Google Business Page and we were off to the races.
